The Michigan Department of Education is awarding more than $625,000 in grants to 19 school districts statewide to support students interested in becoming educators.

Locally, Concord Community Schools received $10,000. The funding is intended to create a clear path for students to explore teaching careers, starting with mentorship programs in junior high, continuing through high school and early college.

The grants will support programs for students in grades 6-12 and help school districts cover tuition costs for graduates preparing for teacher certification. Officials say the initiative is part of Michigan’s plan to address teacher shortages and build a strong pipeline of future educators.
