Friday night’s Jackson High football game vs. Haslett ended with 6:51 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter and Haslett leading 42-24. A shelter in place order was implemented after Haslett players and some fans sprinted away from the benches and bleachers on the visitors side of Withington Stadium, heading towards the north end of the home stands.
Before the evacuation, what appeared to be a fight had broken out on the south side of the stands and drew a rowdy crowd of youths into that corner of the home seats. Soon after security seemed to break up that action, many of those young people left the stands and made their way outside the gates. It was then that the melee appeared to resume.
It was at this point Haslett players and fans retreated and soon an announcement was made for all fans to shelter at the north end of the stadium. The Home stands were then cleared.
Several Police vehicles appeared in the parking lot between the school and stadium with lights flashing, followed by a fire truck and eventually two JCA ambulances.
