Sheriff Gary Schuette reports on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 7:08 pm, Deputies from the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff, along with Rives-Tompkins Township Fire Departments and Jackson Community Ambulance responded to a single vehicle rollover crash on Rives Eaton Road near Dixon Road in Rives Township.
Upon arrival and through the investigation deputies determined the vehicle was travelling southbound on Rives Eaton Road and drifted off the roadway on the passenger side. The vehicle then impacted on a large tree, which caused the vehicle to roll over crossing Rives Eaton Road and came to a final resting position on its roof on the other side of Rives Eaton Road.
The driver of the vehicle, a 53-year-old man from Rives Township, and the investigation showed he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the traffic crash. He died of a neck injury.
It does appear alcohol was a factor in this crash, which remains under investigation.
