Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Flags across Michigan will be lowered to half-staff on Friday to honor the life of Motor Carrier Officer Daniel M. Kerstetter, who passed away following a tragic accident.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered all U.S. and Michigan flags at the State Capitol and on public buildings to be lowered in his memory. Officer Kerstetter died after his patrol car was struck during a routine traffic stop on I-75 in Lincoln Park on September 13. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later taken off life support.

Governor Whitmer called Officer Kerstetter a dedicated public servant and proud family man. Flags will return to full staff on Saturday, September 21.
