Sheriff’s Department raises concerns about budget cuts if millage fails

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is raising concerns over potential budget cuts if the upcoming November millage fails. At a county commissioner’s meeting on Tuesday, members of the Sheriff’s department and community voiced their fears about a possible $1.5 million shortfall. Larry Jacobson, president of the Road Patrol Union, noted that past millages have struggled to gain support and warned commissioners that the community will feel the impact if this one does not pass.

While the Sheriff’s department expressed frustration, Commissioner Corey Kennedy emphasized that there is no movement to defund law enforcement. Kennedy said the county fully supports the department but acknowledged the fiscal challenges they face. Both sides hope that Tuesday’s meeting can lead to better cooperation moving forward.
