Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The City of Jackson has announced it will host its third annual Summit to Reduce Violence on Wednesday, April 17, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the American 1 Event Center, 128 W. Ganson St.

The event’s mission is to assist the community in reducing and eliminating violence. The first two years of the event were focused on identifying problems and solutions. This year, the City says the focus will shift to taking action to put an end to violence.

Residents and organizations work together to organize this event including Jackson County Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka, Jackson Police Department, the City of Jackson, Group Violence Intervention, Jackson Juneteenth Committee, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson Public Schools, and LifeWays.

“By Coming Together, our goal is to create concrete plans of action that will eradicate violence in Jackson,” said John Willis, an event organizer. “We’re looking forward to furthering these discussions and make a difference in the community.”

Keynote speaker David M. Kennedy is the Director of the National Network for Safe Communities and Professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Registration is free and breakfast & lunch will be served. Call 517-768-8728 for more information.
