Jackson Mayor Daniel Mahoney was on WKHM and discussed the upcoming “Summit to Reduce Violence in Jackson County”.  Mayor Mahoney stated that he is interested in getting the community’s input.

“I’m looking forward to seeing some of the different people in our community coming out and present solutions.” the mayor said on his segment Wednesday on AM Jackson with Greg O’Connor.  He also said that he feels that law enforcement is aware that there is no “policing our way out of this issue” and that the prosecutor’s office is of the same mind set.

When asked if there was a “gang problem” in Jackson, Mahoney said that by definition “gangs” are an issue, but not in the sense of “Chicago…turf wars or Crips”.  He referred to some of the violence Jackson is experiencing as “group violence” as opposed to gang violence.

The Summit to Reduce Violence in Jackson County will take place on April 8th, 2022 at the American 1 Event Center from 8:30am to 2:30pm.  A link to the pre-registration website is available below.
