Jackson, MI. – This past Saturday, the Jackson community was host to 2 walks to benefit two great causes.
The first was the JDRF One Walk. This 2 mile walk around Ella Sharp Park in Jackson is the flagship fundraising event and the largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) event in the world. The funds and awareness raised by the hundreds of dedicated walkers, volunteers and sponsors help create a world without T1D. Their slogan says it all, WALK WITH US TO TURN TYPE ONE INTO TYPE NONE. Hundreds of people showed up Saturday, September 10th. 2016 despite overcast skies and on-off rain showers. This did not hamper the eager walkers willingness to participate. Just over $111,000 was the goal for this year and word on the street is they’ve surpassed $55K.
The second was the Walk for Alzheimer Research held at Cascades Falls Park – Urban Fishery. 258 participants and 48 teams registered for this year’s event according to their website. 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Jackson, MI They’re currently at 65% of their goal and have raised over $26,000 so far. Here is a special message from the organizers of the walk, “A huge thank you to everyone who came out today to walk, volunteer and celebrate with us. Together we can #ENDALZ. These walks bring awareness to causes and allows for our community to come together for a greater purpose. These are just 2 of many walks in our community throughout the year. We are proud to be part of them and will always support them in all ways.
