Bright Walls seeks local artists for mural project

Bright Walls, a mural festival in downtown Jackson which quickly gained attention since its inception in 2018, intended to have its third and final festival this year. However, in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the finale of the festival has been pushed to 2021.

Despite the postponement, Bright Walls still wants to celebrate art with the community, so they have partnered with the Jackson District Library to do just that. “”One of the best parts of Bright Walls is how it brings the community together,” says Ashley Esselink, spokesperson for Bright Walls. “So, in light of the postponement of the 2020 festival, the team was brainstorming ways we could still celebrate art as a community—but safely, of course. Jackson District Library’s county-wide locations presented the perfect opportunity include the whole community without bringing large groups together.”

Wooden tiles will be distributed to the Jackson District Library branches, where community members and artists may pick one up to paint starting July 20.

Those who wish to be included in the mural should take their tile home, decorate them however they want, and return them to any library branch by August 7. The mural will be on display this summer during another Bright Walls event, the details of which have not yet been released.
