Governor Whitmer’s address – Wednesday, April 22

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer addressed the public Wednesday, April 22 at 3pm. A video of the briefing may be viewed below.

Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said that people are avoiding seeking medical care for important medical treatment because of COVID-19, and she urges people not to wait, and talk to your doctor about how you can get testing and treatment in the safest way possible.

Michigan continues to see a rise in the number of tests that are done, as well as expanding testing criteria to anyone that shows symptoms, health care workers, and essential workers.

Skilled nursing facilities are now required to report any case of COVID-19 to MDHHS.

“Life is not going to go back to exactly the way it was before for a while, and we will have to be patient, and also cautious, but I encourage everyone to stay the course,” said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun.

In the Q&A section of the address, Governor Whitmer was asked about a short-term extension of the Stay at Home order. She responded, “What we know is that we are going to have to look at the process of re-engaging sectors of our economy… Regardless, it’s not all going to happen overnight.” She says some version will be in effect for a while, and now will be an appropriate time to assess the Stay at Home order.
