A man is dead after a shootout with police early this morning.
A woman in the 1300 block of Westlane Street on the west side of Ella Sharp Park called 9-1-1 for a domestic situation. When police arrived, offers reported that a man began shooting at officers. One Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy was struck, and his injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. Officers returned fire on the suspect.
Police report that the man, who police say is a 34 year old from Flint, fled to a second home, and was found dead hours later inside that second home. It is unknown if the man took his own life.
Investigation has been turned over to Jackson County Major Crimes Task Force, per Sheriff Rand. Officers involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave, per agency policy.
