Consumers Energy has resumed their work on Pearl Street, upgrading their underground resources to help keep up with the expanding power needs downtown.
Brian Wheeler from Consumers Energy said that the road will continue to remain open. “The work is beginning as we speak. If you’re downtown today, this week, and beyond, you’re going to notice some pretty heavy equipment, some work being done on the road. One thing I want to make sure you know is that the road is still open for business. We’re trying to keep as much traffic flowing on that road as we can while we’re doing things to repair and upgrade some of the equipment that we have, especially underground.” Wheeler said.
Businesses like Schupbachs, Nite Lite, and Collins Brothers Floor Covering will be open and ready to serve customers, but Wheeler reminds shoppers to be aware of their surroundings as construction goes on. Wheeler did not have an exact ETA for completion, but said that they’re going to work as deep into the winter as possible, with weather permitting.
