Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, a Republican candidate for Governor, joined WKHM this morning for a lengthy interview, in which he answered a number of questions we posed to him. To hear the whole answer to our questions, click the link to our audio page.

You’re trailing in the polls. How can you make up the ground?

“Polling is all over the map.” Calley said. “We’ve seen in recent years that pollsters have no idea how to poll anymore. In a primary its even much more unpredictable because who’s going to show up to vote? Sometimes you have really low turnout, sometimes higher turnout. One thing I know for sure is that I have a ton of momentum.”

Has Attorney General Bill Schuette misused his office?

“There’s no question about that. It’s one of those open secrets that’s been around a while in Lansing.”

How has (Schuette’s) handling Of The Flint Water Crisis gone?

“That has been perhaps the biggest travesty of his time as Attorney General, has been his regular and repeated use of his office for political gain.” Calley said. “These charges against (DHHS Director) Nick Lyon are completely inappropriate, (former AG) Frank Kelley called them ‘show trials’ and I couldn’t agree more. The trial against Nick Lyon is part of a campaign for governor; its outrageous and unfortunate.” Calley continued, “he’s using the criminal justice system, literally filing criminal charges against people to get headlines for a campaign.”

What’s the most important issue for Lt. Gov. Calley’s Campaign?

“The biggest issue clearly is education and bringing back skilled trades, workforce development, lifelong learning; just investment in our people.” Calley said. “Investing in our people so that they’re in a better position to take advantage of all the opportunity our growing economy has to offer.”

The Primary elections are Tuesday, August 7th. Check your local municipality for polling places and sample ballots. Stay tuned to WKHM for all the election coverage.
