Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — US Congressman Tom Barrett, who represents Michigan’s 7th District in the House of Representatives, announced via social media that he has departed for Mexico to visit Paul and Christy Akeo in prison, as well as demand their release after he says he learned of their worsening physical condition on Tuesday.
Congressman Barrett stated that it is long overdue that Mexican authorities release the couple from Spring Arbor over what amounts to be a dispute over credit card charges on a time share, saying “enough is enough.”
Congressman Barrett says he has been in regular communication with the Akeos’ family since their detention, and has promised to do whatever he can to secure their release and repatriation to America.
