JDL to host Grand Opening for New Hanover Branch

han-2

Hanover, MI – The Jackson District Library (JDL) will host a grand opening event for its new Hanover Branch at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 12. The new branch, located at 137 W. Main St. in downtown Hanover, expands library services and provides additional community space.

JDL purchased the property in December 2023 for $65,000 and has since completed renovations to enhance the facility. The building, previously home to Bombshells Beauty Parlor, adds approximately 425 square feet to the library’s footprint, allowing for a more versatile space to accommodate growing community needs. Previously, JDL operated the Hanover Branch from a leased space within the Village of Hanover office building.

The new branch opened to the public in early 2025, and the upcoming grand opening celebration will feature refreshments, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a historical slideshow, and activities for all ages.

JDL Board President Stephen Rajzer highlighted the library’s commitment to expanding and updating facilities across the county.

“Hanover and the surrounding area have a long history of supporting the Jackson District Library,” Rajzer said. “This new branch is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance library access and services for residents.”

JDL Director Liz Breed emphasized the benefits of the new space for the community.

“We are excited to offer a larger, more accessible facility that meets a wide range of community needs,” Breed said.

Library officials stated that JDL will continue renovation and improvement projects across its branches in 2025 and beyond. Over the past eight years, the district has renovated approximately half of its 13 library locations.

“We are committed to utilizing taxpayer funds responsibly to improve our library branches,” Rajzer added. “With strong community support through our operating millage, we will continue to enhance library spaces throughout Jackson County.”
