
63-year-old Brighton resident, Robert Kevin Kowalske, was arraigned on Wednesday in Livingston County on charges related to the death of a 22-year-old Howell man. The charges stem from a hit-and-run crash that occurred in the early morning hours of December 23, 2024, near Old US 23 and Bergin Road in Hartland Township.
The victim was riding his bike southbound on Old US-23 from his night shift job when he was struck by a vehicle and subsequently killed. Kowalske, the driver of the vehicle, allegedly left the scene. The incident was reported through a passerby with no witnesses.
Kowalske has been charged with Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident when at Fault Resulting in Death and Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death. His bond was set at $250,000. A probable cause conference has been set for April 1st. Kowalske was remanded to jail by the court after formal reading of the charges.
