A routine traffic violation turned into a tragedy for the family of Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Davis. Davis, who was riding his motorcycle, died after a driver, Jack Henry Pierson, rolled through a stop sign and collided with him in Waterloo Township on May 25, 2024.
Pierson, who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor moving violation causing death, was sentenced yesterday (March 17) to two years of probation, 200 hours of community service, and a suspended one-year jail sentence. The community service will benefit causes Davis cared about, such as homeless shelters and drug rehabilitation programs.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Justin Griffis emphasized how a split-second decision altered many lives, and Davis’ family shared their grief, with his brother recalling the painful memory of that day. Pierson expressed remorse for his actions, wishing he could undo the fatal mistake. Davis, a dedicated deputy who was well-regarded in the community, died shortly after the crash. His family has placed a memorial at the intersection where he lost his life.
