According to Springport Township Police Dept., on Friday, February 14 at approximately 4:15 p.m., STPD officers made a traffic stop on Stark Rd. near M-99 in Springport Township for a traffic violation. During the stop, officers observed a weapon located inside of the vehicle and called for backup. Officers found that the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as a 54-year-old man from Charlotte, MI, was driving on a revoked license and had an outstanding felony warrant out of Calhoun County for a weapons offense. The driver was placed under arrest and turned over to Calhoun County for his outstanding warrant.
During the investigation, officers also learned that the passenger of the vehicle, a 31-year-old woman from Albion, had an outstanding felony warrant for stolen property out of Eaton County, as well as several misdemeanor warrants out of numerous counties. The passenger was also in possession of methamphetamine and a weapon. The passenger was placed under arrest and lodged at the Jackson County Jail, pending her arraignment.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers located numerous different weapons. Both the driver and the passenger will be charged with carrying concealed weapons. The passenger will also be charged with possession of methamphetamine.
