During Tuesday night’s City of Jackson Council meeting, the newly appointed Police Chief Christopher Simpson was sworn in after receiving a unanimous vote in support from the City’s Councilmembers. He now rejoins the Jackson Police Department after retiring in 2017 before becoming Undersheriff for the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff in 2020. Chief Simpson took some time to speak with WKHM, including on how he felt that night to be appointed to this position.
Simpson’s vast experience working with law enforcement in the Jackson area puts him in an excellent spot to work with not only the City of Jackson, but in collaboration with surrounding agencies in the area.
That experience was something that City Manager Jonathan Greene told us was a major part of selecting Simpson to replace the retiring Police Chief Elmer Hitt.
Chief Simpson was also able to tell our audience what he feels the City and the Jackson community as a whole can expect from him with this job.
He will become the sole Police Chief after February 21, which is Elmer Hitt’s final day at the position.
