With demand for growing energy and sustainability professionals, Jackson College is launching a new cutting-edge learning facility. The college announced plans for a Center for Applied Technologies, aimed at expanding programs in utilities, energy, and modern industry. President Daniel Phelan says the facility will provide hands-on training to equip students with the skills needed to support local employers and drive economic growth.
A groundbreaking ceremony is set for 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, at the Jets Hangar. The 15,000-square-foot building, costing $6.8 million, will be funded primarily through bond sales. College officials emphasize the project’s focus on adapting to evolving industry needs, with flexible learning spaces designed for high-demand careers.
Jackson College is working with state agencies and utility companies to support their initiative. The college currently offers degrees in energy systems, along with a pre-apprentice program for future lineworkers in partnership with Consumers Energy.
