Jackson, Mich. (WKHM, Marc W. Daly) — A Jonesville man will spend at least nine years in prison for stabbing his ex-girlfriend just before Christmas last year.

21-year-old Dustin Collins was sentenced Monday in Hillsdale County Circuit Court to 9 to 20 years for Assault with Intent to Murder. He had pleaded no contest to the charge, stemming from a December 23 attack at the Heritage Lane Apartments on West Street.

Michigan State Police responded to the scene, where the victim was found with multiple stab wounds to her head and neck. Thankfully, her injuries were non-life-threatening, and she received treatment.

Collins now faces nearly a decade behind bars for the violent assault.
