Jackson Police Department offering Vacation Watch Program

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Jackson Police Department is now offering a Vacation Watch Program to assist residents who are away from home during the holiday season. By submitting a form through the City of Jackson’s website, residents can notify the department of their absence, enabling patrol officers to monitor their property more closely.

Launched in 2014, the program has received hundreds of requests from residents. The Vacation Watch Request Form allows residents to provide basic information about their property and any additional details officers might need to know. After verifying each submission, officers conduct periodic checks on the home. All information provided remains confidential and is accessible only by the police department. The form can also be printed from the City’s website for mail-in or drop-off submissions.

Elmer Hitt, Director of Police and Fire Services, emphasizes the importance of home security during the holiday season. “Our officers are on duty 24/7, and these checks are an important part of their daily patrols,” Hitt said. “We hope this program provides some peace of mind for residents traveling over the holidays.”

This program is available only for properties within the City of Jackson. Residents outside the city limits are encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency for similar services.
