Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A three-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound early Sunday in Blackman Township, according to the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety.

At 1:07 a.m. on Sunday, November 3, officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 4200 block of Lansing Avenue in Blackman Township. Upon arrival, they located a three-year-old boy who had been injured by a gunshot. Officers and paramedics from Jackson Community Ambulance provided on-site medical care before transporting the child to Henry Ford Hospital in Jackson. The boy was later transferred to Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor for further treatment.

Authorities stated that the boy resides in the home where the incident took place. According to a police release, the child was able to “locate a firearm within the residence, where it discharged and struck him.” Details on the specific circumstances surrounding the incident were not provided, and both parents were reported to have been home at the time.

The case remains under investigation, and the child’s current condition has not been disclosed by the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety.
