As reported on WKHM Thursday morning, over 30 cats were removed from a dumpster at an apartment complex near downtown Jackson by Jackson County Animal Control earlier this week. Lydia Sattler is the Director of the Jackson County Animal Shelter. She told WKHM this isn’t an isolated incident.

“Actually Greg we’ve had several cases this bad just in the last few months actually pretty pretty egregious cases we’ve had going on recently and just happens to be another one unfortunately we did that was reported that they found someone found several trash bags in a dumpster in an apartment complex and Animal Control responded to the call. They did find it was legitimate and collected the evidence from the dumpster. Two of our officers responded to the scene we collected and catalogued all the evidence and we have a pretty strong lead and where they came from is where falling up on that as we speak.”

“Well good that you have a lead I bet somebody knows something out there certainly right.”

“Absolutely, the way that we the way that we are they were found in the condition of the animals. so I know there was some suspicion of torture of animals or something more nefarious going on.”

Sattler said they do the investigating and animal abusers could be facing felony charges.

“Police get involved in with this or do you do your own investigation Lydia?”

“We do our own investigations that we are deputized the sheriff’s department so we have all the same Authority that the that Sheriff’s Department does in investigating and writing one and executing search warrants and such.”

“Can you make an arrest?”

“We typically don’t do arrest we submit our warrant the Prosecutors Office once those warrants are issued they look people will have bench warrant out for them they’ll get picked up at some point.”

“You know you said you’ve had a couple cases like this any reason why this is happening recently?”

“We’ve been asking ourselves that same thing question just in the beginning of September we were at a another house received a report of and 29 animals with six different species deceased in that house and very stages of decomposition.”
