County Commission Chairman Steve Shotwell on WKHM recently said Jackson County doesn’t have pots of money available.
“Steve, the county has a low mileage yes we’re coming up in November.”
“It’s a maintenance millage yes sir maintenance millage yeah it’s for the Corrections Officers and to maintain the level of Staffing within the corrections division of the sheriff’s department is what the money will be dedicated for and it really very very important that we see this millage pass and it’s a quarter mil and it’s going it’s going to would show up on your taxes and in the December and we would get we would get things up and running and it would make the 2025 budget hole if it doesn’t pass then we’re going to be dealing with a tight situation but between November and the end of the year because the Border Commissioners will have to make some tough decisions.”
“You don’t have piles of money?”
“Well the price is the piles of money or dedicated to other other projects and no we don’t have okay we don’t have a big bottle big pot of money just laying around we have a reserve that we’re responsible to have state of Michigan requires 60 days working capital we’re a little bit over that we’re at about 93 days but that’s important because as we come into the tax season right now we have to make all municipalities hole before we get to collect up all the delinquent taxes that haven’t been paid and go out and refill refill that Reserve.”
