Jackson, Mich. (WKHM, Marc W. Daly) — A Jackson County school district has increased its police presence following an anonymous online threat. The Western School District was one of over 100 schools targeted, according to Superintendent Mike Smajda. While there was no specific threat to the district, law enforcement shared the information early Monday after it was reported to a state tip line.

In response, the district took extra safety precautions, and law enforcement will maintain an increased presence on campus. The Western School District, located in Parma, includes six schools ranging from elementary to career preparatory levels.

The sheriff’s office has not yet provided additional comments.
