LANSING, Mich., May 13, 2024 – Stopping to get a car wash led a Jackson woman to becoming a millionaire when she won a $1 million Mega Millions prize from the Michigan Lottery.
Louise Adams, 77, matched the five white balls in the March 26 drawing to win the big prize: 07-11-22-29-38. She bought her winning ticket at Kelly’s Express Mart, located at 1825 Horton Road in Jackson.
“I play Mega Millions here and there, so when I stopped at the gas station to get a car wash, I decided to buy a ticket,” said Adams. “A few days later, I looked up the winning numbers online and saw I’d matched five, but I didn’t know how much I’d won. I took the ticket to a retailer, and the worker looked at it, wrote something on a piece of paper, and then slipped the paper across the counter to me. When I looked at it and saw $1 million written down, I was speechless! Winning truly feels like a miracle.”
Adams visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim her prize. She plans to share her winnings with her family.
“I still can’t believe I won! All I have to say is thank goodness I decided to get a car wash that day, otherwise I wouldn’t be here claiming $1 million,” said Adams.
Mega Millions drawings take place each Tuesday and Friday evening. Each Mega Millions play is only $2. For an additional $1 per play, players have the opportunity to add a “Megaplier” that can multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to five times. Mega Millions tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
