Jackson drivers will want to prepare for the closure of a busy street before their Thursday morning commute. N. Elm Avenue between E. Ganson Street and E. North Street will be closed to all traffic at 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 25 for an urgent street repair.
The City of Jackson Department of Public Works (DPW) is closing the street so a sinkhole in the intersection of N. Elm Avenue and Leroy Street can be safely repaired. The DPW says the street is likely to reopen the morning of Friday, April 26. The sinkhole area of the intersection is currently blocked off from vehicles and pedestrians. The cause of the sinkhole will be determined when crews can close the street and start repairs.
N. Elm Avenue is a busy street that connects Downtown Jackson and residential neighborhoods to Blackman Township and I-94. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained through the closure. Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes.
