With the midnight contract deadline now passed, the United Auto Workers union is now on strike. That’s despite a last chance offer from GM that included a 20% wage hike, inflation protection, and what GM says is a faster path to the top wage scale.

Ford has said they are waiting on a counter offer. Meanwhile, the UAW is demanding a 36% boost in pay over four years, seeking restoration of cost-of-living pay raises, an end to tier wages, a 32-hour work week with 40 hours of pay, the restoration of traditional defined-benefit pensions, and pension increases for retirees.
