The smoke from wildfires in Canada is back and that has forced the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to issue another Air Quality Alert for most of lower Michigan. The National Weather Service says this is the 28th alert posted this summer.

EGLE says those in sensitive groups — such as people with lung disease, heart disease, and children and older adults — should limit prolonged or heavy exertion. Everyone should reduce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution, such as outdoor burning, and use of residential wood burning devices — and limit driving as much as possible.

Officials also recommend keeping windows closed overnight to prevent smoke from getting indoors.

You can check your local air quality at airnow.gov.
