HANOVER TWP- Just before 5:30 on Sunday afternoon, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of an isolated shooting in Hanover Township.
Dispatchers received a phone call from a woman who reported her friend, a 34 year old male was shot by a relative in the 12400 block of Stony Point Road in Hanover Township . A deputy from the Sheriff’s Office was accompanied by a Conservation Officer from the Michigan DNR. On arrival, they would order all occupants to exit the home prior to entry. The suspect, a 55 year old male who was identified as the victims uncle exited, and was taken into custody without further incident. Deputies would then enter the residence to discover the victim with a single gun shot wound to the head. The firearm believed to be the one used in the homicide was recovered by police.
The 55 year old suspect is currently lodged at the Jackson County Jail as the Prosecutor’s Office await a judge to sign off on an arrest warrant for homicide. Alcohol and drugs are suspected to be factors in this incident. Detectives from the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff are continuing this investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, DNR Law Enforcement Division, Jackson Community Ambulance and the Hanover Township Fire Department.
