Jackson, Mich. — The City of Jackson has announced that its spring hydrant flushing program will begin on Monday, April 17 in the Southwest section of the City and is expected to wrap-up on Tuesday, May 2 in the Northeast section.

A map that indicates areas and their corresponding dates is pictured below or can be found online at CityofJackson.org.

Some important reminders from the City:

  • Flushing helps maintain the quality of the City’s water system, such as washing iron and sediment out of water mains.
  • Water may become discolored during flushing but the City says this will not affect water quality. The water is safe to drink and discoloration often disappears within a short time.
  • Residents are advised not to wash clothing while lines are being flushed in or around their neighborhoods.
  • Residents may experience low water pressure or possibly no water for a short time when flushing is happening in the area.

Questions may be directed to the “Report a Concern” feature on the city’s website or by calling the Department of Public Works at 517-788-4170.
