Jackson, Mich. — Jackson Public Schools is one of nearly 400 school districts in the country set to receive grant money from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) totaling about one billion dollars to purchase electric school buses.

Twenty-five of the school districts being awarded grant money are in Michigan, and include Alcona, Bessemer, Cassopolis, Harbor Beach, Hartford, Jackson, L’anse, Mayville, Onsted, Pellston, Pentwater and Sand Creek. A total of 138 clean school buses will go to these school districts in Michigan alone.

Schools interested in receiving funds were to apply by August 2022. The EPA has selected 389 of those applications so far, and more are under review. According to the EPA, these awards are the first $1 billion of a five-year, $5 billion program created by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
