The Jackson College Board met Monday, June 13th, 2022 with financials on the top of the list.

Jackson College President Dan Phelan appeared on WKHM’s AM Jackson with Greg O’Connor to share a 4.5% increase per credit hour. “Unfortunately, were at a time where, the rest of our country knows the same thing: inflation is moving at a breakneck pace now…to the degree that the board felt prudent to be able to make sure we are able to operate effectively, but also be mindful of pricing concerns for students”.

Beginning in the Fall semester, the credit hour cost will be $176.  President Phelan noted that Jackson College has the highest tuition amongst Michigan’s 28 community colleges, but also pointed out that our area has the lowest local property tax amongst those same 28 community colleges.  Jackson College officials have tried on 14 separate occasions to increase the mileage rate unsuccessfully.

The original charter mileage was at 1.33%, while the current mileage rate is at 1.13% according to President Phelan.
