Kathy Funk, former Flint Township clerk and current county elections supervisor in Michigan, has been charged with ballot tampering in the August 2020 primary.

She’s also been charged with misconduct in office.  Both charges are felonies punishable by up to five years in prison.

Funk was Flint Township’s clerk when it is alleged that she purposely broke a seal on a ballot container, which would prevent votes inside the container from being counted in an anticipated recount, under Michigan law.

Funk oversaw the August 2020 primary election in Flint Township.  Running as a Democrat, she was also seeking reelection as clerk and won by a slim margin.  Funk’s challenger, Manya Triplett, requested a recount due to suspicious activity, but one was never conducted.  Triplett would go on to replace Funk as township clerk after Funk resigned to become Genesee County’s elections supervisor.

Funk faces arraignment in Genesee County’s 67th District Court.
