Sexual Assault Kit Initiative leads to Jackson man’s arrest

Friday, Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Jerry Jarzynka announced that a Jackson man has been charged with six counts including Criminal Sexual Conduct and Assault with Intent to Murder thanks to the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative.

25 year-old Tyrone Demarcus Parker was charged Thursday, June 24, with two counts of First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, one count of Third Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, two counts of Assault/Strangulation and one count of Assault with Intent to Murder.

Parker was arraigned before Judge Allison Bates. His bond was set to $750k.

The charges stem from crimes that ocurred within the span of 2014 and 2015. First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and Assault with Intent to Murder each carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

The Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office was awarded a grant in 2019 to expand and regionalize its Sexual Assault Kit Initiative program to include Jackson County. The purpose of the Ingham/Jackson Regional Sexual Assault Kit Initiative is to end the backlog of untested kits, identify perpetrators through DNA technology, and help provide resolution to survivors of sexual assault.

Parker is currently lodged within the Michigan Department of Corrections. His preliminary examination is set for July 9th.
