JDL/JATA Team Up To Provide WiFi Buses

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Bus passengers on Jackson Area Transportation Authority
buses will soon be able to surf the web on their phone without using their valuable
wireless data.

Jackson District Library and JATA officials have been working together for
months on providing WIFI access on JATA buses. JDL is providing this service by
providing the hotspot and covering the monthly data fees.

“One of our main initiatives has always been increasing internet access to Jackson
County residents,” JDL Director Sara Tackett said. “By providing free WIFI on all
public buses, we take another step in accomplishing this goal. We are always
looking for ways to form community partnerships with other organization to help
area residents discover, learn, and succeed.”

JATA officials have installed seven of the 18 hotspots on their buses so far, and
plan to install the rest so that all nine bus routes will provide WIFI by this summer.

“We are happy to partner with the library on this initiative,” JATA Executive Director
and CEO Michael Brown said. “It served as a win-win for both our organizations
and, more importantly, serves as a win for Jackson County residents and JATA
customers.”
