The City of Jackson is looking for Fifth Ward residents who want to serve their ward on the Jackson City Council. The City of Jackson is now accepting applications for the vacant Fifth Ward City Council seat. This seat was vacated following the recent resignation of former Councilmember Kelsey Heck. According to the City Charter, council vacancies must be filled by appointment from the City Council.
Interested applicants must be registered voters who are residents of the City’s Fifth Ward. This ward comprises of Downtown Jackson and its surrounding residential neighborhoods. A ward boundary map is available for reference on the City’s website. The following items must be submitted to the City of Jackson on or before Tuesday, May 12, 2020:
- Completed City of Jackson Board/Commission Application
- Completed Candidate Attestation Form
- Letter of interest describing themselves and relevant experience
The Board/Commission Application and Candidate Attestation Form are available to download on the City’s website. These materials are to be submitted through email to Amber Clark, Assistant to the City Manager, using the email address aclark@cityofjackson.org or by placing them in the drop box at the front of Jackson City Hall, 161 W. Michigan Ave., Jackson, MI 49201. If you are submitting by email, please include the subject line “Fifth Ward Application.”
Qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview with the City Council following the submission deadline. The appointed councilmember will fill the rest of this seat’s term until Nov. 2021 when the term expires.
