No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged in a brush fire that occurred in Onondaga Tuesday afternoon. More than 30 acres were burned near Baseline Drive between Rives Eaton and Walker Roads. A Tuesday morning grass fire along U.S.-127 south of McDivitt Road was contained to two acres. According to Summit Township Fire Department Chief Tim McEldowney, wind is the biggest cause of grass fires spreading. People should wait until grass turns green in yards and fields before burning trash or leaves and shouldn’t do any open burning if winds are higher than eight miles per hour. McEldowney also said a fire should be tended until it is completely extinguished.
