Road Project Moved Up, Cascades Rehab Coming In 2019

Jackson County originally had plans to rebuild McDevitt in 2023, but thanks to the State during lame duck, the time table has been accelerated by nearly 4 years.

“(The lame duck session) gave us the money to rebuild McDevitt this year. $3.7 million, our engineering and administrative staff at Jackson County Road Department are working on the plan to do that,” Jackson County Chairman Steve Shotwell said. “They’re also meeting with Summit Township over sewer and water lines, contacting Consumers Energy and making sure anything that they have under that roadway can be done when we open it all up because once we fix this we’re not going to want to take it back up in a year and a half.”

In addition to the McDevitt project, the Cascades will get some much-needed rehab work, as the 80-year old water pumps will be rebuilt for the upcoming year. “Fixing the Cascades. If anyone was there in August and at the end of the year. you noticed that some of the fountains that shoot up in the air weren’t on. This year we’re beginning the retooling of the Cascades. There’s three pumps involved, three tiers of these fountains. We’ll get those rebuilt.” Shotwell said.
