The United Way of Jackson County are getting set to roll out this year’s campaign, and Executive Director Ken Toll says their continuing mission is to fight poverty.
“We are all about addressing poverty and financial instability,” Toll said. “If you look at the stats in Jackson County, about 15% of households are actually living in poverty, and another 23% are just above the poverty level, but they’re still not making enough to get by. We know it takes more than twice the poverty rate to actually afford enough to have a safe place to live, have health insurance, have child care; and maybe pursue that American Dream, saving for college or retirement and without enough income, you can’t do all those things.”
