Today’s pre-trial hearing for former 5th Ward City Councilman Andrew Frounfelker was fairly uneventful.
A lack of transcripts from the preliminary examination meant no additional motions, filings, or testimony were presented. “We don’t have a transcript yet from the preliminary exam,” said Alfred Brandt, Frounfelker’s legal counsel. “however, my understanding is…it should be here next week. After a discussion with (Assistant Prosecuting Attorney) Branigan yesterday, our desire is to have this matter sent to trial.” Frounfelker is charged with Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
Judge Susan Jordan obliged, setting a new pre-trial hearing for August; and Brandt indicated that he didn’t anticipate filing any motions at this time, stating that “discovery has been pretty good.” Judge Jordan set the pre-trial hearing for August 17th at 8:30am, and the trial is expected to begin September 10th.
