Sheriff Steve Rand reports that on Friday, March 8th, at approximately 1:30 PM, Sheriff's Deputies responded to Hanover Horton Middle School for the report of a threat. The threat had been written on the wall of the school's bathroom, lacking any specific details. School personnel immediately put the School Safety Procedure in place to secure the building and protect the students.
School video surveillance was instrumental in indentifying a suspect. Detectives from the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff responded to assist. After making contact with the suspect, it was determined that the threat was not credible.
As a precaution, a bomb detecting canine from the Michigan State Police was used to search the school.
An investigation is ongoing for the preparation of possible criminal charges.
