Tuesday night a Deputy from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department tried to stop an SUV after it sped through a stop sign on Blackstone at Michigan Avenue. The driver refused to stop for the officer and continued south on Blackstone running the red light at Washington and turning onto Wilkins. The driver ran the stop sign at Wilkins and Greenwood. That’s when he struck a pickup truck. Shortly after that crash the driver wrecked his SUV when he ran into two parked cars and struck a utility pole. The driver and occupants of the pickup truck were not injured. The driver of the SUV was arrested, taken to Allegiance Health for treatment to a cut on his arm and was then lodged at the Jackson County Jail. Authorities believe the driver in this incident is also responsible for property damage caused earlier in the City of Jackson. Wednesday, 34 year old Derrick Lester was arraigned on charges of fleeing and eluding. He is being held on a felonious assault charge out of the City of Jackson.
