Most of the boats stayed above the water line and a few, had a little trouble. Friday the Jackson United Way kicked off their latest campaign with the Float Your Cardboard Boat races in the Urban Fishery at the Cascades Park. The cardboard boat resembling a canoe from Allegiance Health ended up winning the event. The Walton agency came in second. The most spectacular sinking award went to Western High School, their vessel as barely able to make it off shore. The Walton Agency also won the Judges Choice and Peoples Choice awards. Mini paddles were given as trophies. The event raised about $3,500 for the local United Way.
