An explosion and fire at the Gerdau Steel Mill sent two employees to Allegiance Health, Friday after 4 PM.

All employees were evacuated after the furnace explosion.

Napoleon, Columbia and Summitt Township fire departments responded.  A Napoleon fire official described the injuries as 1st or 2nd degree burns.

A cause of the explosion is yet to be determined.  Damage to the facility considered minor.

Gerdau said plant production is not expected to be significantly impacted.
