Due to the high heat and humidity in the forecast for the next couple days the Office of Emergency Management has announced the opening of cooling centers in Jackson County. Cooling centers are facilities that are air-conditioned and open to the public. The centers are located at the Jackson County Department of Aging from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Lifeways from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM and the King Recreation Center from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday and till 3:30 on Friday. Additionally the Jackson Transit Authority is offering Hot Tickets when the temperature reaches 93 degrees or when the heat index is above 102 degrees. These tickets are free and will take you to and from cooling center locations. Tickets are available at cooling center stations and the central transfer station. This is restricted to the city system only.
