18 Year Old Jackson Man Drowns In Vandercook Lake



18 year old Kwatez Hardrick of Jackson lost his life yesterday at Vandercook Lake.  According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Deputies and several other emergency personnel responded to the lake around 5:00 PM.  Witnesses told investigators that Hardrick was having difficulty swimming.  Marine Patrol launched their boat, DNR Conservation officers, Summit Township Fire Department and U of M Survival flight responded to the scene to assist in searching for Hardrick.  Hardrick was found during a search of the swim area.  He was removed from the water, paramedics started life saving measures and he was taken to Allegiance Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.  In a press released statement Jackson County Sheriff Steve Rand said, “ We were all very grateful for the rapid response of law enforcement, citizens and fire/rescue personnel.  We were hoping for a more positive outcome.  It’s a very unfortunate beginning to the summer season.”
