MCO to Bring Suit Against State of Michigan

The labor union representing Michigan corrections officers is expected to file a class-action lawsuit today (Mon) against the state, because the state discontinued paying officers for pre-shift meetings as well as the time between clocking in and the time they arrived at the work site. Mel Grieshaber of the Michigan Corrections Organization told the WKHM that the suit alleges a violation of the federal Fair Labor Standards ACT. For years, officers were paid for an additional 12 minutes at a pre-shift meeting as well as the time it took to get assignments and the like, at the beginning of the day.   The MCO is seeking to recoup lost wages in the suit.
