Jackson Black History Tour Group Founder Passes Away



Legendary former Jackson High teacher Shirley Pitts who founded the Jackson High Black History Tour Group has died at the age of 67.  ''Mama Pitts'' as she was ffectionately know by her students took her group to perform at the White House on three separate occasions. Pitts retired in 1999 but remained very active with students and the Church of God.  Visitation for Shirley Pitts is Friday from 6 to 8pm at the House of Johnson Funeral Home.  The funeral service is Saturday at noon at the Church of God 140 W. South St.
